Everest is the most popular trekking site offering the panoramic views of glorious snow-capped Himalayas in Nepal.
Tenzing Norgay Sherpa and Sir Edmund Hillary first conquered the top of the world, Mt. Everest at 1953 AD. Sir Edmund Hillary is also known as godfather of Khumbu region. He is highly respected as he has played a significant role in not only climbing the Mt. Everest but also in the development of the Khumbu region. The Lukla airport is also known as Tenzing-Hillary airport named after them to acknowledge their efforts in the construction of the airport. Not only airport but also the schools and health centres are built to mark their efforts in overall development of Everest region.
While trekking in the Everest region get amazing panoramic views of the Himalayas like Thamseru, Amadablem, Loptse, Nuptse, Makalu, Pumori and the highest peak of the world Mt. Everest. Pass through the Sagarmatha National Park that comprises deep gorges, Himalayan glaciers, huge rocks, floras, rhododendron forest, faunas, musk deer and Lophophorus (Danphe) etc.
The Khumbu glacier is the highest glacier of the world and is followed for the final part of the trail to the Everest Base camp. This Khumbu glacier forms the khumbu icefall and it is the most dangerous stage while summiting the Mt. Everest. Similary, Ngozumpa glacier lies below the Cho Oyu Mountain in Nepal and it is the longest glacier in the Himalayas forming the spillway lake. In regard of the best view points, Kala pathhar, Gokyo Lake and the Renjola pass offers the best panoramic view of snow-capped mountains in the world.
Everest trekking region is mainly inhabited by Sherpas and it is also the wonderful opportunity to learn and explore the centuries old Buddhist monasteries surrounded by the flyers which resembles the about their beliefs, tradition, culture and lifestyle. In Everest region, the most commonly found and served vegetable is potato. It is just found everywhere you go but you will not find the potato like of Everest region anywhere else in the world. Most of the Nepalese climbers, mountaineers, guides and porters are of the Everest region mostly Sherpas. As Sherpa is one the caste of people living mostly in Nepali Himalayas, it shouldn’t be misunderstood as their occupation (climbers). Visit the famous ancient 16th century monasteries like Tengboche monastery and others beautiful monasteries where lamas chant ancient prayers following their tradition and rituals. You can view colored prayer flags hooked over the trees, monasteries and poles flapping in the wind and colored mani walls as you hike and follow the trails in everest region trekking.
The peak months to go for trekking in Everest region is in the month of October-November or from March to May when the weather is usually dry and perfect condition for walking and hiking. During spring and autumn season the sky is clear and the spectacular views of the mountain can be seen. Therefore it is not recommended to trek in everest region duing monsoon (June-August) as the walking in hills becomes slippers and also there will be more chance of flight delays in Lukla due to harsh weather conditions.
